My knowledge in pregnancy, childbirth, baby care and my various birth experiences have helped me educate more than a hundred women and their coaches. I want to inform couples about all of their choices and the positive aspects of pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, baby care and family life. I encourage mothers to trust their bodies and their coach in this process. The Bradley Method series of classes emphasizes natural abdominal breathing, comfort measures and relaxation throughout labor plus active participation of the partner/coach. I believe that these measures can help women achieve an unmediated vaginal birth. Most women spend more time thinking about how to decorate the baby’s room than they do about their labor & birth and what life will be like after. A woman’s pregnancy and birth experience is the first step in motherhood. Active participation of the mother-to-be and her labor support person in pregnancy, birth and beyond will help to ensure a healthy baby, healthy mom and a positive journey for the years of parenthood ahead.
My goal is to teach in a relaxed fun environment; a class where you feel comfortable enough to ask any question. I have been teaching childbirth classes and attending births in the Tampa Bay area since 1997. I live in Palm Harbor with my husband Neil (married in 1992), sons Miguel, Orlando, Salvatore and daughter Cecilia. We are also partners in Corteos’ Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria www.corteos.com
Yolanda & Neil’s Births…In January of 1996 we enrolled in BRADLEY® classes, we were four months pregnant with our first child Miguel. It wasn’t the birth we had planned for: a three day induction, cesarean section birth - 8 lbs, 13oz, I had Pre-eclampsia/Toxemia. The experience was a good one for us, a healthy baby and a healthy mom. The labor was long and stressful, yet we knew what choices and options were available to us because of what we had learned in our BRADLEY® classes. Our second son Orlando was my first VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) - 9lbs, 11 1/2 oz, a two day induction medicated vaginal birth I had Gestational Diabetes – 1999. Our following birth 2001 was our third son Salvatore; at 39 weeks a breech baby that was turned externally; a seven hour unmediated birth. Then there was our daughter Cecilia 2003 a surprise pregnancy (became pregnant while nursing her brothers) labored in the tub, a three hour natural birth.
